It is important to note that for a stirrup of this design (with a quick-release arm), opening is not 100% guaranteed in the event of a fall. Several factors may prevent this, such as the horse falling, a loose girth causing the saddle to slip, or a slow or unusual exit angle that does not generate enough lateral force to open the arm. This remains very rare, but riders should be aware that no stirrup is completely failproof in every situation.
