Remember to clean and lubricate the blades during clipping — roughly every 15 to 20 minutes — to prevent the clipper from overheating (contact with hot metal can cause a strong reaction in your horse).
Regularly remove the blades from the clipper head to brush away any buildup; they'll cut far more efficiently when clean.
Wipe down the bottom blade to avoid depositing cut hair back onto your horse as you continue clipping.

Have the combs sharpened regularly — approximately every 5 to 6 clips, and more often if the horses have a challenging coat (long, thick, dirty, or sticky). For the best results, sending them back to the manufacturer is a more reliable option than a local knife sharpener.

Clean the blades after each use by washing them with soapy water, then dry and oil them.
