Canter - Leather & Rope German Reins Brown
- Leather and rope German reins by Canter.
-
German reins are also known as sliding reins. They are much longer than standard reins, running from the girth, through the bit rings, and back up to the rider's hands. The fixed attachment sits at the chest (or on either side of the saddle). The reins slide freely through the bit rings — either when the rider adjusts their length or when the horse moves its head.
- When correctly fitted, they define the maximum height the neck can be raised — the point the head should not exceed. They are not "adjusted" in the traditional sense; they only come into tension when the horse raises its neck above a chosen point. The head-neck angle should remain open — German reins are not intended to bring the horse on the bit.
