Canter - Leather and Rope German Reins Black
- German reins in leather and rope by Canter
- German reins are also known as sliding reins. They are much longer than regular reins — starting at the girth, threading through the bit rings, and returning to the rider's hands. The fixed attachment sits at the breastplate (or on either side of the saddle). The reins slide freely through the bit rings, whether the rider adjusts their length or the horse moves its head.
- When correctly fitted, they define the maximum poll height — the point beyond which the horse's head should not rise. They are not "adjusted" in the way ordinary reins are; they only come into contact when the horse raises its neck above a carefully chosen point. The head-neck angle should remain open — German reins are not intended to bring the horse onto the bit.
