• The Pessoa bit encourages a higher head position in horses that tend to shift their weight onto the shoulders. The bit's action can be adjusted by positioning the reins on different rings — with the lowest ring providing the strongest action.
• It is also possible to use coupling reins and attach them to two of the three rings.
  More experienced riders can also use four reins, allowing greater flexibility when adjusting the bit's action.
