- Pelham 16 mm single-jointed, with 4.5 cm lower shanks – Stainless steel.
- Targeted and effective action through the effect on the tongue, poll, and lower jaw.
- Lever action on the poll, which can be varied depending on the buckle position. A mouthpiece often used with Pelham roundings; for higher training levels, using 2 pairs of reins is recommended.
- The Pelham bit is often recommended for better control of stronger, more forward-going horses. It tends to have a lowering effect when the reins are attached to the lower ring, and a slightly raising effect when attached to the large ring.
- The longer the shanks, the stronger the leverage effect.
The Pelham can be used with 2 or 4 reins. It can also be used without a curb chain to soften its action on the mouth.
A leather strap can be used as a replacement for the metal curb chain.
