Jump'In - Short Shank Pelham Double Jointed
- Shanks: 45 mm
- Mouthpiece thickness: 17 mm
Use
- A compromise between a double bridle and a snaffle
- Lever action varies depending on shank length and curb chain adjustment
- Can be ridden direct, with coupling reins, or on four reins
- Causes poll flexion and pressure on the lower jaw
- The double joint relieves pressure on the palate compared to a single-jointed bit
- The pelham bit is often recommended for better control of strong, hot-blooded horses. It tends to have a lowering effect when the reins are attached to the lower ring, and a slightly raising effect when attached to the larger ring.
The longer the shanks, the stronger the lever action.
The pelham can be used with 2 or 4 reins. It can also be used without a curb chain to soften its action on the mouth.
You can also use a leather strap as a replacement for the metal curb chain.
