• The pelham bit is often recommended for stronger, more forward horses. It has a lowering effect when the reins are attached to the lower ring, and a slightly raising effect when attached to the large ring.
• The longer the shanks, the greater the leverage effect.
  The pelham can be used with 2 or 4 reins. It can also be used without a curb chain to soften its action on the mouth.
  You can also replace the metal curb chain with a leather strap.
