• When the rider applies pressure, the noseband presses down on the horse's nose bridge through a lever action. As with other hackamores, the longer the shanks, the stronger the effect.
• This is a fairly severe bit and can be challenging for some riders, as it requires maintaining contact on both reins simultaneously. If you turn on a single rein, the hackamore rotates… but the horse doesn't follow. That said, with shorter shanks and a comfortable noseband, it can create a pleasant sense of tension in the contact — which some sensitive horses respond to very well.
