Twisted short-shank Pelham bit - Jump'In
- Shanks: 45 mm
- Mouthpiece thickness: 17 mm
Use
- A compromise between a full bridle and a snaffle
- Leverage effect varies depending on shank length and curb chain adjustment
- Can be ridden on a single rein, with roundings, or on four reins
- Creates a poll flexion and pressure on the lower jaw
- The double-jointed mouthpiece relieves pressure on the palate compared to a single-jointed mouthpiece
- Stronger action on the mouthpiece — the irregular twist makes the barrel less comfortable
- The pelham bit is often recommended for better control of strong, forward-going horses. It produces a lowering effect when the reins are attached to the lower ring, and a slightly lifting effect when attached to the larger ring.
The longer the shanks, the stronger the leverage effect.
The pelham can be used with 2 or 4 reins. It can also be used without a curb chain to soften its action on the mouth.
You can also replace the metal curb chain with a leather strap.
65% copper, 23% zinc, 12% nickel, 5% manganese and other alloys
