Jump'In - Thin Flat Pelham Bit
- Rings: 70 mm
- Mouthpiece thickness: 20 mm
Usage
- Acts on the horse's balance, encouraging it to rebalance and shift its weight onto the hindquarters.
- Requires specific bridle cheekpieces
- The larger the rings, the stronger the lifting effect
- The needle shanks help channel and assist with steering
- Can be used directly on elevator cheekpieces, with roundings, or on four reins
- Long shanks for increased action
- The flat mouthpiece rotates 90°, offering a contact surface while freeing the tongue and lying flat in the mouth
- Can prove severe with strong use due to its thinner mouthpiece, especially when ridden on a direct rein
- The Pelham bit is often recommended for better control of strong, forward-going horses. It tends to have a lowering effect when the reins are attached to the lower ring, and a slightly lifting effect when attached to the large ring.
- The longer the shanks, the greater the leverage effect.
The Pelham can be used with 2 or 4 reins. It can also be used without a curb chain to soften its action on the mouth.
A leather strap can be used as an alternative to the metal curb chain.
