Jump'In - Straight Leather Gag Bit
- Mouthpiece thickness: 21 mm
- Rings: 75 mm
Usage
- Acts on the horse's balance by encouraging it to rebalance and shift weight onto the hindquarters.
- Requires specific bridle cheekpieces
- The larger the rings, the stronger the gag action.
- The fixed rings on this model prevent pinching.
- Can be used directly on the gag cheekpieces, with connector rings, or with four reins.
- The mouthpiece is slightly thick, but the leather will soften completely once in the horse's mouth.
- The straight leather bit is a soft, natural, and comfortable option.
- Prevents an uncomfortably cold contact in the mouth
- Requires very little maintenance — when the leather stiffens, rinse well and condition with paraffin oil or food-grade oil.
- This bit is designed to help horses that tend to be heavy on the forehand and lean strongly on the hand. The aim is to encourage the horse to lift its withers and shift weight onto the hindquarters. Of course, the "rebalancing" effect can only be achieved if the horse has sufficient musculature and back suppleness — so best avoided with young horses or those not yet physically prepared.
- The bit is attached to the bridle using sliding rope cheekpieces that run through two notches on the rings. The gag cheekpieces act on the poll via the headpiece of the bridle.
- This bit requires a soft and educated hand, as it often encourages the horse to curl behind the vertical. It is therefore recommended for experienced riders only.
