Composition
Sweet Iron
54% carbon and 46% manganese.
Sweet Iron bits oxidize when exposed to air and moisture. A thin layer of rust forms, which has a naturally sweet taste that stimulates saliva production. As the horse salivates more, it takes up greater contact with the bit. The oxidation process gradually changes the color to grey/brown.
