Jump'In - Short-Shank Leather-Covered Pelham Bit
- Mouthpiece thickness: 20 mm
- Shank length: 35 mm
Usage
- A compromise between a curb bit and a snaffle
- More or less leverage depending on shank length and curb chain adjustment
- Can be ridden direct, with coupling rings, or with four reins
- The leather-covered mouthpieces offer genuine comfort in the horse's mouth, encouraging relaxation through the softness of the leather while maintaining the feel of a double-jointed German Silver bit.
- Prevents an uncomfortably cold feel in the horse's mouth
- Minimal care required: rinse thoroughly and condition with paraffin oil or food-grade oil as soon as the leather becomes stiff.
- The Pelham bit is often recommended for stronger or more forward-going horses with more energy. It has a lowering effect when the reins are attached to the bottom ring, and a slightly raising effect when attached to the large ring.
- The longer the shanks, the stronger the leverage effect.
The Pelham can be ridden with 2 or 4 reins. It can also be used without a curb chain to soften its action.
A leather strap can be used in place of the metal curb chain.
Composition
Stainless steel, central lozenge in German Silver, and leather covering
Leather, rubber, and foam bits are not guaranteed against biting, even from the very first use.
