Jump'In - Short Shank Double-Jointed Locked Pelham Bit
- Shanks: 45 mm
- Mouthpiece thickness: 17 mm
Usage
- A compromise between a double bridle and a snaffle
- Leverage effect varies depending on shank length and curb chain adjustment
- Can be ridden direct, with rein converters, or on four reins
- Induces a poll release as well as pressure on the bars
- The double-jointed mouthpiece relieves pressure on the palate compared to a single-jointed bit
- The central joint is made of stainless steel to lock the bit into an anatomical shape when the hand acts. This allows for a stronger action in cases of very strong contact.
- The pelham bit is often recommended for better control of strong, hot horses. It produces a lowering effect when the reins are attached to the lower ring, and a slightly lifting effect when attached to the large ring.
- The longer the shanks, the stronger the leverage effect.
The pelham can be used with 2 or 4 reins. It can also be used without a curb chain to soften its action on the mouth.
A leather strap can be used as an alternative to the metal curb chain.
