Jump'In - Pessoa Double-Jointed Sweet Iron Bit
- Rings: 70 mm
- Mouthpiece thickness: 13 mm
Usage
- Bit with a lowering lever action
- The reins can be attached fixed to the lower ring, using rein connectors or as two pairs of reins.
- Slightly stronger than a classic double-jointed bit, the copper inlays toward the horse's mouth and the central rings help relax the horse more easily.
- The Pessoa bit encourages a higher carriage in horses that tend to lean on their shoulders. The strength of the action can be adjusted by positioning the reins on different rings — with the lower ring providing the strongest effect.
- Rein connectors can also be used, attached to two of the three rings.
More experienced riders can also use four reins, allowing greater flexibility in adjusting the strength of the bit.
Composition
Sweet Iron
54% carbon and 46% manganese.
Sweet Iron bits oxidize when exposed to air and moisture, developing a thin layer of rust. This rust has a sweet taste that naturally stimulates saliva production. As the horse salivates more, it accepts the bit more softly. The oxidation process gradually changes the color to grey/brown.
