• The Pessoa bit encourages a higher head position in horses that tend to be on the forehand. The bit's strength can be adjusted depending on where the reins are placed on the rings — the bottom ring position giving the strongest action.
• It is also possible to use connectors and attach them to two of the three rings.
  More experienced riders can also use four reins, allowing for greater flexibility in adjusting the bit's strength.
