Jump'In - Double-Jointed Sweet Iron Elevator Bit
- Rings: 70 mm
- Mouthpiece thickness: 13 mm
Usage
- Acts on the horse's balance by encouraging it to rebalance and shift weight onto the hindquarters
- Requires specific bit cheekpieces
- Can be used in both directions — one way for a more effective elevator action, the other for a stronger lever effect.
- Slightly stronger than a classic double-jointed bit, the copper inlays toward the horse's mouth and the central rings help relax the horse more easily.
- This bit is designed to help horses that are heavy on the forehand and tend to lean strongly on the hand. The aim is to encourage the horse to lift its withers and shift its weight onto the hindquarters. Of course, the "rebalancing" effect can only be achieved if the horse has sufficient muscle and back suppleness — so it should be avoided with young horses or those that are not physically prepared.
- The bit is attached to the bridle using sliding rope cheekpieces that run through two slots on the rings. The elevator cheekpieces act on the poll via the bridle's headpiece.
- This bit requires a sensitive hand, as it can encourage the horse to curl behind the vertical. It is therefore reserved for experienced riders.
Composition
Sweet Iron
54% carbon and 46% manganese.
Sweet Iron bits oxidize when exposed to air and moisture, developing a thin layer of rust. This rust has a sweet taste that naturally stimulates saliva production. As the horse salivates more, it accepts the bit more softly. The oxidation process gradually changes the color to grey/brown.
