• The Pessoa bit encourages a higher head carriage in horses that tend to fall on their forehand. The strength of the bit can be adjusted depending on where the reins are attached to the rings — the lowest ring position gives the strongest action.
• It is also possible to use coupling rings and attach them to two of the three rings.
  More experienced riders can also use four reins, allowing for greater flexibility when adjusting the bit's strength.
