- When the rider applies pressure, the noseband presses down on the horse's nose through a lever effect. As with all hackamores, the longer the shanks, the stronger the action.
- This is a fairly severe bit that can be challenging for some riders, as contact must be maintained on both reins simultaneously. If you turn on a single rein, the hackamore rotates — but the horse doesn't. That said, with shorter shanks and a comfortable noseband, it can create a sense of tension in the contact, which some riders appreciate with particularly sensitive horses.
