Winter Essentials for Your Horse ❄️

Conseils & AstucesDec 28, 20234 min

Following our last Instagram Q&A, so many of you asked us for advice on care products based on your current needs (mud fever, thrush, ...) ❄️ So why not write a little article to share our answers with everyone? 🤔 Maybe you've been wondering the same thing 🥰

MUD FEVER SOS 😣

Winter is back and so is "mud fever"... ⚡️ You may have experienced it yourself, or perhaps a friend at your yard has — and it's really not a pleasant thing to deal with! 👎

It is actually a skin condition that can affect your horse's lower limbs, particularly the pasterns (the area between the knee and the hoof) 😥 It is generally caused by a combination of moisture, mud and bacteria present in the environment 🌧

The different symptoms to look out for:

➡️ Thickening and swelling of the skin

➡️ Formation of thick scabs

➡️ Itching and discomfort

➡️ Hair loss in the affected area

To prevent this, it's recommended to keep your horse in clean, dry areas, avoid leaving him in muddy conditions for too long, and regularly check his legs for any early signs of mud fever so it can be treated as quickly as possible 💪

To treat it, you can gently clean the affected area with lukewarm water and a mild soap 🧼 Once the area is completely dry, you can apply the Natural'Balm healing balm by Natural'Innov. It is highly recommended for mud fever thanks to its soothing and healing properties 🔥

⚠️ In serious cases, please consult your vet for appropriate advice and treatment ⚠️

FED UP WITH THRUSH? 🙅‍♀️

Another very common issue we're seeing in horses at this time of year... 😓 Easy to spot, your horse's frog will become soft, sometimes infected and give off a foul smell 😷

This can be caused by various factors, such as wet and dirty environmental conditions ☔️

To treat thrush, we recommend cleaning your horse's hooves regularly to remove dirt and debris, and using a brush to carefully clean the sole, the frog and the clefts

Once the area has been cleaned, you can apply our favourite product — one you love just as much as we do — to treat thrush: Kevin Bacon's - Hoof Solution for Thrush Repair 💥

Super easy to use — simply apply directly to the frog and softened soles and you're done! 🤩

⚠️ It's important to treat thrush quickly to prevent it from progressing and causing more serious complications. Regular check-ups with your vet and farrier can help maintain the health of your horse's hooves ⚠️

THE PERFECT WINTER HOOF OINTMENT ☃️

Staying with hoof care, let's take a closer look at this special Winter hoof ointment: Ungula Naturalis - Winter Black Hoof Ointment 🖤

Why this one and not another? 👀 Simply because:

Easy to apply thanks to its flexible formula, even in freezing temperatures 💪

Deeply penetrates the hoof, nourishes and softens the horn and frog 🐴

Disinfects the frog, sole and hoof capsule without drying them out 🙌

Disinfecting action thanks to the combination of four active ingredients & significant hoof growth 🔥

So, can you see why we love it? 🥰

MY HORSE IS AN ABSOLUTE MUCKY PUP 🐷

After covering the most common issues your horses face at this time of year, many of you also asked us about our miracle products for removing stubborn stains from your horse 😂 You know that moment when you go to fetch little Thunder from the field and he's decided to roll in mud right up to his ears just before you arrive 🤡 AND you've only got a few minutes left before your session ⏳

Grey and white horses are absolutely stunning, but let's be honest, so much harder to keep clean 🙈 Don't panic — we have a wide selection of products to help you "destain" your precious one: right here 🌟

Let's take a closer look at the favourite product of one of our brand ambassadors, Gwendolen Fer ❤️ It's the Easy Shine Dry Foam Stain Remover Shampoo by Ravene 🧽 We tested it with her at an eventing competition in Saumur and honestly, the results are incredible! 🤩 Check out our crash-test video right here 🎥

Incredibly handy, you can use it without water and no rinsing needed 🔥 It's the perfect product for grey, light-coloured or white-socked horses 🙌

Free from silicone and parabens, and on top of that, it smells absolutely divine — think chamomile and cornflower floral water 🌸 So what more could you ask for? Just give it a try! 🥰
