5 produits coup de coeur pour les lendemains de concours 🥇

5 must-have products for the day after a show 🥇

Feb 27, 20263 min

The competition weekend is over.
The lorry is packed away, the rugs are washed… and most importantly, it's time to give your horse the care they deserve after all that effort 🥰

Because a smooth return from competition is the key to a confident start to the following week — we've put together our OHLALA routine: 5 favourite products to help your horse recover, unwind and feel their best.

🔥 Goal: support muscle recovery, protect the limbs, care for the hooves, and keep your horse comfortable — both physically and mentally.

1️⃣ Clay: the essential for limbs

After exercise, tendons and joints take a beating. A clay poultice is a simple yet highly effective step to support limb recovery and reduce swelling 😉

👉 A ready-to-use clay is applied directly to a clean, dry limb, in a thick layer to cover the hair.

How to use it?

  • apply along the entire limb

  • leave to air dry or under stable bandages

  • leave on overnight

  • rinse the following day from bottom to top to boost circulation

Why we love it:

  • simple gesture

  • cooling sensation

  • easy recovery routine to put in place

2️⃣ Relaxing massage to loosen the back

Transport, warm-up, course work… the back works hard during a competition. A few minutes of massage helps to release muscle tension and improve the horse's responsiveness.

How does it work?

  • apply on the back

  • massage slowly for 5 minutes

  • focus on tense areas

💡 It's a perfect step on Sunday evening to set yourself up for a more supple week ahead.

3️⃣ Frog care: keeping moisture at bay

Temporary stabling, rain, muddy ground… hooves take a real beating at competitions 😅

A targeted frog treatment helps to:

  • cleanse

  • limit bacterial growth

  • strengthen weakened hooves

👉 Apply to a clean hoof, ideally a few days after returning home.

Why it matters:
A horse that's comfortable in its hooves recovers better and works better.

4️⃣ Mash: supporting internal recovery

Recovery isn't just something you see on the outside.

Mash is ideal for:

  • support gut transit

  • encourage hydration

  • stimulate appetite after a stressful weekend

Many horses eat less at competitions: offering a mash on their return helps them ease back into a calm routine.

👉 Give on Sunday evening or the following day.

5️⃣ Caring for your equipment

After an intense competition weekend, it's not just your horse that needs attention — your riding equipment deserves a little love too 🥰

Numnahs, fly veils, rugs, boots and bridles collect dust, sweat and mud — regular care is essential to preserve their durability and comfort.

To keep your equipment in perfect condition, start with a good rug clean: a quick go with a rug brush and the hard work is already done!

Then check the girths, bridles and boots for any signs of wear and remove any sand.

For boots, we have everything you need to make them look as good as new: Boot and synthetic leather care

For leatherwork, here's a blog post with all our tips and advice 👉 read the article

It's a small ritual that makes a big difference, both for your kit and your peace of mind.

🧡 The OHLALA post-competition routine

A good post-competition return doesn't have to be complicated.
It's a series of small, consistent steps:

✔ relieved limbs
✔ relaxed back
✔ well-maintained hooves
✔ supported internal recovery
clean tack

It's what allows you to prevent rather than repair.

And above all, it's a moment of connection with your horse after an intense weekend.

✨ Key takeaways

Taking care of your horse after a competition is an investment in:

  • their sporting longevity

  • their comfort

  • your progress

Your routine doesn't need to be long — just consistent 😉
