You have probably already seen a stone hung in the shelters or boxes of certain horses, but why hang this strange device in your horse's environment? O hlala explains everything to you 🔥

WHAT IS THE SALT STONE USED FOR?

Providing our horses with salt has several benefits :

- A sufficient intake of chlorine and sodium is essential for the well-being of the horse, it needs it in its daily intake for good health

- This stimulates the appetite and if your horse tends to be slightly sulky about his ration, this can be a real help.

- It grows for watering . This point is particularly interesting when the summer heat is here and some horses tend to consume less water than they should.

- It helps with digestion and the maintenance of healthy intestinal flora and this is a point to really take into account when we know the fragility of the horse's digestive system.

Despite everything , and as with all supplements, it is important not to consume them excessively. Normally the horse knows how to manage itself perfectly in terms of salt intake (on average around 50g of salt stone per day for a horse with sustained physical activity) but if you have the impression that your horse does improper use, do not hesitate to speak to your veterinarian .

All that remains is to hang a salt stone in the environment of our protégé , in the box, in the paddock, or even both . We advise you to always hang these salt blocks sheltered, and close to a point of temperate, clean and unlimited water 💦

WHICH ONE TO CHOOSE ?

Several types of salt stones are available to you. Some only made of salt, others more complete.

- For a very natural stone we advise you to opt for a Himalayan salt stone . We like the fact that they are made in a single block which makes them less friable and they do not disintegrate on contact with humidity.

- A little salt, and a little garlic ! So yes, put like that it's not particularly tempting and yet the horses love it. The little extra? Ingesting garlic is a real plus in the natural fight against flies, ticks, etc. which annoy our horses during the sunny days.

HOW TO ATTACH IT?

You again have several options:

- A string and that's it. Sometimes the string is provided with the stone, but if this is not the case, don't worry, provide yourself with a straw or hay bale string to attach your stone where you want it

- A stone support that you can attach to your horse's box or shelter

Little tips : if your horse tends to grab his ration a little too quickly, don't hesitate to place the block of salt directly in the feeder in order to encourage your companion to eat more slowly by making access to the grain slightly more difficult

We hope as always that this article will be useful to you ❤️
