We all dream of one day going to a competition with a horse braided to perfection, without any strands of straw in the tail or mud everywhere 😇 But reality often catches up with us at a gallop and we find ourselves urgently riding the same morning 😂 Fortunately, Camille Condé Ferreira gives us all her little professional tips so that we no longer have any excuse for poorly made pawns... Are you ready? Let's go!

The essentials for perfect pawns ❤️

Before discovering the techniques for braiding, rolling and attaching the pawns, we need to equip ourselves with small products to help us . First of all, take a bucket that you fill with water, then put a sponge in it to soak . The sponge will allow you to moisten the hairs to make them more manageable. It could also be used to remove potential tasks , who knows 😇

Attention ! We ban any use of detangler on the hair that we want to braid. In fact, they tend to make the mane slide , which is not practical for the pawns to hold in the long term. on the other hand, you can very well detangle your horse's tail with the intense Easy Shine which will provide an elegant and fragrant finish ❤️

Next, we need to discipline the beast's mane . To do this, you can first detangle it with a classic horsehair brush so as not to risk damaging it too much. Then you can equip yourself with a 4-tooth comb which will allow you to separate the strands and create regular gaps between each piece ✨

Camille's tip: tie the following hairs into small buns so as not to be bothered by unwanted hairs when you braid.

To follow Camille's tips, you can also use pliers if you do not want to put elastics on each part to be "delimited". You can move it easily and it will not damage your horse's hair. In addition, it is attached to a comb which can also help you during your hairdressing session! 😇

The choice of elastics is crucial! You need elastics that are not too visible in your horse's hair while being strong enough to last throughout your competition day. For example, for a white mane, we opt for white elastics while for a chestnut mane we would opt for black or brown. For our part, we have a slight preference for "flat" silicone elastics which are of good quality and hold really well.

But after all, it depends on the thickness of your horse's hair as well as your preferences 🥰

Perfection or nothing! When we succeed in all our little pawns, we really want our little one to be the prettiest in the world (just that!). So we don't forget to even out the headrest passage as well as the tail for optimal finishes which will not go unnoticed, we promise. Curved scissors will be perfect for this! 🤩

To finish in style, a little hairspray is just ideal! It allows you to discipline the remaining hairs while fixing your pretty pawns. The smell of this hairspray is also just divine and it removes very easily with just one brushing . So why deprive yourself of it? 🙈

The snail pawn technique by Camille! 💕

First, always start at the top of the mane , just after the headpiece passage. This will allow you to fill in if necessary at the bottom of the mane and adjust. Making a smaller pawn at the bottom will be much less visible due to the position of the hands and/or the mat which hides a little 😇

Always remember to secure the rest of the hair , as we said before, while you start braiding. Then you can start to make your little braid by tightening the hairs tightly because this will really help to have the prettiest pawn possible.

To make snail pieces, you can use 2 rubber bands or just one if you are really comfortable . If you take two elastics, once your braid is finished, tie it and fold the small end, leaving as little hair as possible, then wrap the elastic around it to limit the excess hair. This should make you feel quite round ❤️

Take your second elastic and cross it in the same place as the first. The crossover needs to be upwards so that it really loops at the top. Next, pinch the mat with your thumb and middle finger while rolling the mat inward with your second hand.

We finish by crossing the elastic at the top, and it’s successful ! 😍

You can follow our short video tutorial right here which will allow you to keep it warm in your phone for those Sunday mornings of competitions when you need it! 🥰

We can't wait to see your little stories and your competition photos ! We send you big kisses and, we forgot, these pawns are flawless pawns ! 😇
