The rain and the cold are officially making their grand return... 😇 But fortunately, to prepare better to face the various elements, we thought a little reminder about the weights of blankets and their different uses would help you a bit to make your choice ❤️ Are you ready? Come on, we'll tell you everything! 🔥

Customize the equipment according to the horse and its daily life ✅

Every horse is unique, and it must be considered that it needs, or does not need, suitable blankets based on its age, potential pathologies, the intensity of its work under saddle, its lifestyle...

Indeed, a horse living in the pasture without shelter will not be covered in the same way as a horse living in a stable 😈

Some horses can perfectly spend the winter outdoors without any blanket but, depending on certain parameters, others will have need assistance not to lose too much weight, or to dry more quickly after a work session ✨

What blankets for a clipped horse? 🎈

If you have chosen to clip your horse, it must be well covered to face the cold when it goes out to the paddock, or when you work it both on the lunge and under saddle.

The clipping should allow it to sweat less during effort, and thus to be dry more quickly 🥰

But then, what blanket to choose for the different times of the day and the various temperatures? 😇

You will indeed need to adjust the weight according to the weather. For a fully clipped horse, we recommend:

  • For a temperature of 10 degrees or more: waterproof blanket 0g or no blanket
  • For a temperature between 5 and 10 degrees: waterproof or 150g
  • For a temperature of 0 to 5 degrees: 200g or more
  • For a temperature below 0 degrees: 300g or more

These weights are purely informative, and are not exclusive, you can perfectly adjust according to your horse's sensitivity to cold or its lifestyle. ❤️

Our wishlist of blankets for a clipped horse 💖

We start with the waterproof blanket, perfect for facing days of rain, wind, or the cold that is slowly starting to appear in autumn 🌁

Our choice is a waterproof blanket from Riding World, with a fleece-lined interior to limit friction. It adapts perfectly to the horse's morphology thanks to its comfort pleats and tail flap 🙌🏻

We continue with a 150g blanket, which we decided to take with a removable cover so that we can always adjust the equipment according to your little one's needs 🙈

A blanket from the brand Equithème that is flexible and at the same time resistant, and which offers numerous adjustments to maximize its adaptability 💕

The perfect cover between the end of autumn and the beginning of winter, which can sometimes be really cold, is indeed the 200g 🥶 With its integrated neck cover, it ensures warmth is evenly distributed across the horse's body and limits the risk of injuries or irritations ❤️

Its cut perfectly follows the horse's movements, making it ideal for the paddock or the pasture 🔥

And for the coldest temperatures... 😱 We choose a Horseware 2 in 1 blanket that allows you to adjust the thickness, and thus the weight, according to the outside temperature! The liner system prevents the need to add several shirts or under-blankets, thus multiplying the number of straps that can sometimes pose a danger to the horse ❤️

Here, warmth and waterproofing are guaranteed ✅

And what about work then? 🥰

As for ground work, we have two schools: the first opts for walker blankets, super practical for freeing the shoulders while keeping the horse's back warm, and the second prefers to equip itself with a surcingle with a pad and its usual quarter sheet

On our side, we like both! It really depends on the horse at work.

Our favorite for walker blankets remains the waterproof Kentucky 🙌🏼 It is warm, elegant, and really very practical for everyday use 😇

And for the leg covers, we're in love with the new Flags & Cup! An elegant design that promises optimal protection in the rain, as well as in cold weather thanks to the combination of fleece and waterproof materials ❤️

For horses that come into the stable in the evening, or that are sometimes there during the day, we can change blankets to ensure they have better comfort and to replace the outdoor blanket if it has been soaked by rain ☔️

We recommend having with you a fleece and a warm blanket

For the fleece, we opt for this one, which will also allow you to transport your equine with complete peace of mind 💕

And for the colder nights, we completely melt for the new collection Harcour in just sublime colors 😍 The perfect blend of style and comfort 💖

Now let's move on to the unclipped horse ❤️

For horses that handle winter very well with their bear fur, we still have a few blankets to recommend to limit cold snaps 🥶

To cover an unclipped horse, we recommend:

  • For a temperature of 10 degrees or more : no blanket
  • For a temperature between 5 and 10 degrees : waterproof or no blanket
  • For a temperature of 0 to 5 degrees : waterproof or 150g
  • For a temperature below 0 degrees : 200 or 300g (or more)

Aside from these recommendations for everyday situations, we believe it's important to use a driest blanket after work to avoid putting the horse back in the pasture when it has sweated a lot ❤️

Our wishlist of blankets for an unclipped horse ✅

When the rain and wind come, we bring out the waterproof! The all-purpose blanket that will be really useful in the fall 🥰

We are in love with this blanket Equithème which offers all possible adjustments and attachments 🙌🏼

And for lower temperatures, we go for a Horseware! The purchase price is higher but it allows for a cover that really lasts over time and under which we can attach liners that will help adjust the heat ❤️

And finally, we were talking about it, a small dryer that will help you give your horse more comfort after a sports session ✅ This blanket can also be used before work to help your horse warm up its back before carrying the weight of the rider.

And there you go! You now know all our little tips for dealing with bad weather and the cold this winter while maximizing the comfort of our horses 🐈 So, which blanket(s) are you going to fall for? We’re waiting for you on Instagram to tell us all about it in DM 🥰
